Guess I’ve been busy, since JANUARY!!! No excuse for that. Big news, Heavybag Media now has an office in Los Angeles, in addition to our New Haven office, which is still fully staffed and humming along wonderfully.

We have been doing a lot of work with some of our clients in the social and professional networking space. It’s really an interesting space to be in. Each online community has it’s own set of rules, both official and unofficial, and there are new ones popping up all the time. I personally am now on Facebook, bebo, Ning, MySpace, YouTube, Mashable, Twitter, LinkedIn, plus I run this blog. Our company is represented on Ning, MySpace and soon to be Facebook. Though all of these sites are different in their own way, one common thread is the human factor.

Now, the human factor is much more important on some sites than others. For instance, on MySpace, you can set up a corporate profile and add friends and most of them will be happy to have you, though one in say 200 or so will send you a message asking who you are. I find that when I reply to this message honestly “My name is Jackie and I manage this profile for XYZ company, they almost always accept my request. This is also because when I send a friend request it is targeted, meaning I have done my homework and determined that this person is likely to be interested in what I have to say. But Web 2.0 is really about people talking to people. After all, there is no company, it’s just an entity made up of people. This opens the door for plenty of mishaps, what if some of the people in my company say the wrong thing? Well, that happens, and the thing I love about what Web 2.0 is doing to corporate culture is that it is now OK to be human! Yay! We can all breathe now.

To summarize: choose your audience carefully - make sure they want to hear from you - be honest, and above all, be human.
