Geoff Brenna from Heavybag Media, Jason Cirillo from Roboutbe Games and myself all headed down to the city yesterday to check out Mobile Monday at the Samsung Center at Columbus Circle. We met all sorts of people who were invloved in the mobile community. I had the pleasure of meeting David Harper from WINKsite for dinner and drinks. We had some great converstaions about the future of the mobile space in the US.

I met a lot of other people who are facing the same challenges that Heavybag Media and Roboutbe Games are facing concerning content delivery and billing here in the US. It doesn’t seem like there’s any solid indication from the carriers regarding how or when we will be able to monetize our content in an efficient manner. It’s sort of like someone started the wheel turning, but where it will stop is anyone’s guess. There is a huge movement to circumvent/go around/bill outside of the carriers.

One thing I took away with me: we’re all heading in a million different directions, and until the wheel stops spinning, we won’t know which one of us got it right. If the content and development communities can get together and get on board with eachother, we can drive the marketplace. I think there is the potential for all of us to make money and launch successful projects in the mobile space, especially if we work together. Eventually the carriers will figure it out, or maybe one of us will, or maybe one of us has already.

What do you think about the mobile space in the U.S. right now? Do you have any ideas that may help to move us forward?

One Response to “Mobile Monday in NYC”

  1. Hey Jackie! Yes, MM was a good time indeed. The Robotube Games and Heavybag Media combination knows how to have a good time wherever they may be.

Thanks for plugging my blog, too! http://www.robotubegames.com/blog
